National MMIWG2S+ Awareness Day - Red Dress Day

Standing in Solidarity: Honouring Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Peoples: Hosted by Athabasca Tribal Council

Each year on May 5, communities across Canada honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ People (MMIWG2S+)—an urgent reminder of the systemic violence disproportionately impacting Indigenous Peoples.

The term Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Peoples (MMEIP) is an inclusive one. It acknowledges the broader reality that men, boys, and Two-Spirit+ individuals are also affected. The crisis is deeply rooted in colonial practices, forced displacement, and generations of systemic inequity.

A community gathering is being hosted by the Athabasca Tribal Council to recognize this important day and create space for remembrance, awareness, and reflection. All are welcome.

For more information on MMEIP, visit www.mmeip.ca.

This is a time to listen, learn, and honour the voices calling for justice.
