The stories of this land did not begin with settlement, and they cannot be fully understood without recognizing the Nations, cultures, and knowledge systems that have existed here for generations.
National Indigenous History Month invites us to learn more about the histories that have shaped our communities, the languages that carry cultural knowledge forward, and the enduring strength of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.
Throughout June, we encourage our community to seek out Indigenous voices, attend local events, explore Indigenous authored resources, and take time to learn about the history of the land we live on and the people who have cared for it since time immemorial.
Located on Treaty 8 territory, we acknowledge and respect the Indigenous Peoples whose presence, cultures, and contributions continue to shape the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
Na Naskomonân. We are grateful.
